ABOUT US

WITH YOUR HELP WE CAN PRESERVE A GREEN CORNER OF KERRY

Careys is set in a landscape of mountain and bog land stretching through to river frontage. With the McGillicuddy Reeks and the Atlantic Ocean both in view, it is a beautiful location. Serene yet utterly invigorating!

We are a family-run organisation based in a unique setting beside the River Inny in the most westerly corner of Europe trying to keep our family farm land alive and purposeful. We offer a place for those wishing to take time out to be in the countryside and for those wishing to learn more about the environment.

Until about 7 years ago Careys was a family farm used for cattle grazing and hay. We would like to continue to use the land productively in order to keep it as a living, vibrant part of the community and ecology of the area.

We provide training courses in traditional skills which help to secure a sustainable future for our land, at the same time helping to increase awareness of some of the diminishing skills of the area.

We are a non-profit organisation putting profits back into sustainable activities on the land, committed to keeping our environmental impact minimal and ultimately preserving and nurturing the land.

The main emphasis is on learning and sharing in traditional knowledge and skills through various courses that we have on offer in the hope of a more sustainable way of life.

When we are not running courses, our beautiful Gaeltacht House can be rented as a self catering holiday let. Funds generated through renting the property subsidise courses and are re-invested in the land. Click here for information on our accommodation.
